ENGLAND V. AMERICA
Although the men golfers of England usually make rather an indifferent showing against the American invaders, British women have demonstrated that they are capable of defeating the best of the associates from across the Atlantic. At Sunningdale in May, the team, led by Miss Gourlay, defeated the Americans, led by Miss Glenna Collett, by matches to 6 1.
The event was a personal triumph for Miss Molly Gourlay, the British champion and With Miss Enid Wilson, she defeated Miss Glenna Collett, the American champion, and Miss Marion Bennett, by 4 and 3 in the foursomes; and in the singles she again triumphed over the American captain by 1 up. The foursomes were all square. each side winning two games with one halved, but in the singles the British women did well from The start, and by the end of the seventh meeting were secure from defeat, leading by 5 to 2. The Americans won two of the remaining three matches, giving Great Britain a singles advantage ul k vo 4
