RARE CHINA SOLD
BIG PRICES FOR DUKE’S LOTS Valuable china, tapestries, regal vestments and rare bric-a-brac were the features of the lots, the property of the Duke of Leeds, sold by auction at Hornby Castle, Bedale, recently. There was much better competitition for some of the rare and magniticent specimens of English, Continen tal and Oriental porcelain. The first lot offered was an Imari dessert ser vice, richly gilt, and decorated in red and blue, with birds, flowers, and foliage, scalloped edges, comprising three circular dishes, three 12iin similar dishes, and other 80 pieces. It was knocked down at 370gns. A Dresden dinner service, of beautiful quality decorated with partridges and other birds, flowering tree 3 and sprays of flowers, in rich colours and
gilt, of 130 pieces, made 200gns. A rare Chinese porcelain vase was sold for 235gns. The sale included some of the world's finest needlework, two pieces realising 220gns and 200gns respectively.
