a.t.c. to proceed LAST SEASON REVIEWED The annual report of the Auckland Trotting Club, to be presented to the annual meeting on August 20, states hat the club has had a successful ' notwithstanding the adverse -eather conditions experienced throughout the season. During vear the club distributed £24,960 n Stakes, and members were to be •ongratulated upon the splendid racine and thrilling finishes, which were tritely due to the efforts of the handicapper. Mr. G. Paul. junr. The club held a special race meeting in August 30 of last year for the relief nf sufferers in the earthquake districts. The meeting was a great success and resulted in £5.061 which included the Government taxation, being handed to rhe Relief Committee. It was the rlub’s intention again to help in the rause of distress, by holding a two j a vs’ meeting on August 30 and September 1. for the relief of unemployed, and the committee hoped that it would meet with the same support and sucThe Cinder Track The committee considered it neces-. airy to construct and lay down a cinder track for winter training, which had been completed and was now in use. and should be of great benefit to irainers during wet weather. It was with much regret that the .ommittee had to record the deaths of Messrs. James Hodgson and J. H. Martin, members of the club, and Messrs. J. Molloy and A. Hanna, former members. The sympathy of the club had been extended to the relatives. The Merger The question of the merger of the Otaliuhu Trotting Club with the Auckland Trotting Club was dealt with in the notices of motion to be introduced at the annual meeting. The members of the Otahuhu Club had agreed to the proposal, which was considered by all to be in the best interests of trotting in general, and the committee hoped that members would view the merger in this light and unanimously pass the measure. In the event of the merger not taking place, the following nominations have been received:—For the committee: Messrs. C. J. Schnauer, Eliot R. Davis. G. E. Tansley, Norman Wa.de, J. McCoII and G. Hodgson -retiring members). For the stewards: Messrs. W. W. Massey, S. Davenport, B. Grayson, A. J. Court, K. Rutherford and J. TV. Russell (retiring stewards). Items in Balance Sheet
The balance sheet shows that the revenue for the year was £65,082. The principal item was totalisator, £29,593 gross, of which the Government received £7.506 in totalisator tax. In addition the Government collected £13,961 dividend tax, £1,232 stakes tax, £548 amusement tax, £285 landtax and £62 income-tax. making an aggregate payment of £23,594. Nominations and acceptances yielded £4.711, members’ subscriptions and entrance fees £1.206, gates and stands £7,699, rent £2.568, privileges, dining and refreshment stalls, booth, cigars, £l,BlO, race cards £1,791, and interest on fixed deposits and cash at call £SOO. Apart from stakes £24,555 and Government taxes £23.594, items of expenditure included wages £1,976, salaries £1.544, repairs and maintenance £833, local rates and taxes £7Bl, conference levies £761, general expenses £1,923, interest and accrued interest £4 960, special expenses and donations £6lO, and rent to Cornwall Park trustees £SOO. After writing off depreciation £1.112, and £238 bad debts, the sum of £625 was transferred to capital account, leaving 17s to be carried forward. The assets are shown at £742,011, items being Alexandra Park £20,900. Alexandra Park buildings £14.487, main grandstand £61.766, terraces £10.061, sand track £S4I, new cinder track £490, carriage and motor paddocks, Claude Road property, cottages, Claude Road and Green Lane, and Durham Street property, £ 6,900, fixed deposit at bank, with accrued interest. £11,642, Savings Bank deposits £763 and current account at bank £241. On the liabilities side the capital account stands at £76,315, and the next largest item is the 8 per cent, debenture issue £60,000, with accrued interest £16.000. The president, Mr. J. Rowe, will move at the annual meeting that the merger of the Otahuhu Trotting Club Auckland Trotting Club be sfnrmed, and the trustees and committee be empowered and authorised to do all things necessary to carry the merger into effect and with power to make such variation in the terms as committee might consider advisable.
