REPAIRS PROCEEDING
NORTH SHORE DESTRUCTOR The destructor of the combined Xorth Shore Boroughs is at present undergoing extensive repairs, and the apparatus is expected to be out of commission for a further three weeks. The temporary arrangements made for the disposal of rubbish from the 4.000 houses served are proving quite satisfactory to the district health officer. Expenses for running the destructor for the six months from February 1 t.> July 31 amounted to £613 15s lid. which will be divided among Devonport. Takapuna and Xorthcote. in th*** approximate proportions of 6, 3 and 1. This is based on the number of houses occupied in each borough at the end of March.
“This is the first I have heard of these views.” was the comment of Mr. A. Facer, of Xorthcote. when a letter by Cr. J. Guiniven, referred from the recent meeting of the Takapuna Borough Council, was received. The letterstated that property in the neighbour - hood of the destructor had depreciated in value owing to a nuisance caused by fumes from the furnaces, and als.* that the cost of operation was so great that Xorthcote ratepayers would gladlv scrap the whole apparatus if the Devonport and Takapuna Boroughs would agre*. Roth Xorthcote
representatives smiled broadly and th« letter was r-scelved. .
