WOMEN CHARGED

HANGING AROUND HOTELS IMPRISONMENT FOR ONE Three women appeared at the Police Court today as the result of police activity in the City. Annie Elizabeth Slattery, aged G2, pleaded not guilty to a charge of being idle and disorderly, with insufficient means of support. Constable Christenson said she had been seen hanging round hotels and consorting with undesirables. She had a long list. “i’ll give you a chance,” said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., to accused. “You are ordered to take out a prohibition order and come up for sentence if called upon.” Doris Bartlett, aged 34, who pleaded guilty to being idle and disorderly and consorting with reputed thieves and undesirable persons, was remanded , for sentence for a week. “May I “have bail?” asked accused. "No; seven days in gaol won't do you any harm,” said the magistrate. Violet Cousins, aged 39, who had been seen hanging round hotels and accosting men, pleaded not guilty to a similar charge. “I have been working siuce Christmas,” said Cousins. “Naturally, I must have a few beers at holiday time. I have four sons.” Mr. Hunt; I hope they’re proud of you. “Well, I’ve done my duty by my country, anyway,” said Cousins. Mr. Hunt observed that aepused had a long list of previous convictions. The magistrate sentenced accused to three months’ imprisonment.
