NEWTON OPPOSES CHARGE At a special meeting of the Xetrt:: Schools Committee the following resolutions were unanimously adopted:— “The members of the Xewr: Schools Committee, after carefully reviewing the contents of the committee’s report on education heartily' approve of th** main portoof part one of the report, bat tr 1 entirely’ opposed to the proposal to curtail the powers of education botrds and strongly protest against ir legislation being introduced where:." education administration will be centralised at Wellington. This commute© is of the opinion that the power; of education boards and school remittees should be extended ralfc-r than decreased, and takes strong exception to any attempt being male to interfere with local administrate:: This committee would also emphat' the fact that it has been the experence of its members that wbener any request has been made to board, Ic has received prompt cooperation. and if authorised it hasbe.expeditiously carried out to the p isfaction of the committee: and it felt that such would not be the coif the control of local affairs we transferred to Wellington.” It was decided that a copy of tv committee’s resolutions be sent tot: leaders of each party in the H®* to the Alinister of Education an'iAuckland members of Parliament-
