LOW-FLYING AIRMEN
COMPLAINTS OF NUISANCE Residents of Purley, Carshalton, and Wallington (says an English newspaper) are still suffering annoyance from low-flying planes. Their particular bane is the Sunday joyrider, who, using a light machine, rarely ascends to a high altitude. People of Woodcote Ward, said the deputy-clerk of Coulsden and Purley Urban Council, are the heaviest sufferers. They are awakened early in the morning by arriving and departing airplanes, which seem to skim the tops of their houses. Repeated appeals to the Air Ministry have failed to produce any assurance of alterations. An official at the Air Ministry pointed out that strict regulations existed against “stunting” and low flying.
