TWO HOURS LATE
LIMITED DELAYED BY HOT BOX PASSENGERS TRANSHIPPED Owing to a hot box on a de luxe sleeping-car, the Limited express reached Auckland two hours late this morning. The train was well-filled, passengers who had visited Wellington for the fourth Test match returning by it. The fault first developed at Koputaroa, where there was a delay of 17 minutes. There were then frequent delays all the way up the line to Te Kuiti, where the car was taken off. A train examiner joined the express at Marton, where there was a, delay of 10 minutes, and examiners were on the train all the way to Te Kuiti, which was reached two hours late. Every endeavour was made to keep the car on and avoid disturbing the sleeping passengers in the de luxe car, and it was 8.15 before they were asked to shift to other cars. Fortunately, all the passengers in that particular sleeper were for Frankton, and were not greatly inconvenienced. The Limited, which arrive*.' in Auckland at noon, left Wellington with a total of 13 cars. As a result of the hot box, one was taken off at Te Kuiti. A considerable number of passengers leaving the train at Frankton, two more cars were removed for the rest of the journey. When the de luxe sleeping cars were first put on, hot boxes were frequent developments but the faults were rectified by experimenting with different grades of oil. The hot box which delayed this morning’s express is the first which has developed on a de luxe car since December.
