“MUSIC WEEK”

EFFORT TO ENCOURAGE APPRECIATION NATIONAL MOVEMENT With the object of encouraging greater interest in music and personal attendance at performances of good music, “Music Week" is being held throughout the Dominion, commencing on Saturday, August 16. The movement, which owes its inception to a suggestion brought forward at the recent conference of professional musicians, has received strong support throughout the Dominion. In Auckland prominent business men, churchmen, and others have actively associated themselves with the movement, realising the great benefit that increased musical appreciation means to the community. The result of the efforts of a. strong: and representative committee will be seen in a week of music contributed to by leading musical societies, soloists, church and school choirs, orchestras, etc. The primary and secondary schools, and also the Catholic primary and secondary schools of the city, are assisting with concerts by combined choirs, and special entertainments are also being provided by boys and girls from the Maori schools in Auckland. All musicians taking part are giving their services free in the cause of music. The opportunity is rarely afforded of ‘hearing such concerts, and it is anticipated that they will be very largely attended, and that great benefit to the cause of music will result from such a big concerted effort. Special reference to music will be made in many Auckland churches on Sunday, August 17, and in many instances special musical services will be held. Season tickets admitting to 12 concerts are being issued, and, at a price of 6s, these will no doubt be readily availed of. The concerts will be held at the Town Hall and Lewis Eady Hall every afternoon and evening from August IS to August 23.
