COLOUR SCHEMES FOR EFFECT
The attractiveness of flower beds may be increased by adopting fresh methods in the arrangement of the plants. Iu large beds pleasing effects may be obtained by planting Antirrhinums, for instance, in such a way that when in flower their colouring presents some simple design. This can easily bo accomplished where several varieties are grown. After the beds or borders have been prepared for planting* in the usual way, the surface should be made firm and even. A dry workable surface is essential. Having decided upon the pattern which best suits your purpose and the form of the bed, the design snould be traced over the surface. A long cane or a light rake may be used for marking out shallow lines which divide the bed into sections. Having completed the design, plant out each section with plants of distinct colour. The simple designs illustrated are easily made and have proved effective when planted will: intermediate Antirrhinums. Nemesias iu distinct colours may also be used in similar fashion, while violas or bedding pansies bloom for months on end.
