VICTORIA LEAGUE “AT HOME”

OVERSEAS VISITOR IS ENTERTAINED An enjoyable “At Home" was held by the Victoria League at its rooms, Shortiand Street, yesterday afternoon in honour of Miss L. O. Mitchell, one of the hostesses of the Oxford branch of the Victoria League. In a short speech of welcome. Miss Mowbray, president of the league, gave a brief resumo of the aims and objects of the league and said it gave them great pleasure to welcome visitors from overseas Miss Mitchell gave a very interesting talk about the work of the Christian Missionary Society among the women in India. They had formed a Welfare League

for the care of the young mothers and their children. Miss Mitchell stated that there was a very large death rate <imong the babies and that everything was being done to bring the marriage age up front 30. 11 and 12 years to 16 years for men and 14 years for the girls. In conclusion, Miss Mitchell said it was very gratifying to see the women of all creeds working together: During the afternoon Miss Rountree gave a pianoforte solo. The hostesses for the afternoon were:—Mrs Gulliver, Mrs. Somers, Mrs. R. A. Bndle. Mrs. Reys, Misses Siator (2). Mrs. White, Mrs. Coates, Miss Chalmers. Mrs. McArthur, Miss Murray, and Miss Dineen.
