SENIOR LEAGUE OFF
RAIN INTERFERES WITH SPORTS TODAY HOCKEY OFF ALSO Rain last evening and this morning has seriously interfered with today's sports fixtures. This afternoon the Auckland Rugby League decided to cancel all its ' matches in the senior A and senior B grades. However, all junior matches will be played, with the exception of those in the schoolboy grades. All hockey matches set down for decision this afternoon were postponed also. The girls’ association, which controls the grounds, advised the Auckland Hockey Association and the Auckland Ladies’ Hockey Association that play could not be permitted on account of the danger of cutting up the playing areas to an extent the association considers unwarranted.
Junior Soccer games which were to have been played at the Domain up till 2 o’clock were postponed, but the remainder of the Soccer fixtures and all Rugby will stand as arranged. Heavy rain fell in Auckland last evening, and after short breaks this morning continued again steadily early this afternoon. Despite the bad condition of the ground at Eden Park the represeutative programme was proceeded with by the Rugby Union. The Auckland Rugby League did not decide to put off its senior grade fixtures till early in the afternoon. Up till noon it was still the intention of the League to continue with all but schoolboy games. The majority of the matches under the control of the Auckland Football Association were played. Only junior grade games on the Domain and Victoria Park before 2 p.m. were cancelled.
All matches under tile control of the Auckland Basketball Association were postponed.
