STEALING IRON
LORRY-DRIVER CHARGED Henry Stockley Hainsworth, a labourer, aged 42, appeared before Air. F*. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court this morning and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Hainsworth, who pleaded not guilty, was charged with stealing, on July 21, four cast-iron channel cross-over plates valued at £B, the property of Donagky’s Twine Company, Limited. Fred Esheley, a dealer, gave evidence that Hainsworth, whom he knew by sight, and another man had sold the iron to him. He did not know the other man. They said they had been doing a job. There were some rejects, of which the iron was part. Gordon Hunter, a contractor of Mount Roskill, said Hainsworth was employed by him as a lorry-driver. Hainsworth’s explanation was that he was paid by two men to cart the iron to Esheley’s. The men were not known to him.
