HIKURANGI TO SAIL

TRIP TO NORFOLK ISLAND In an endeavour to revive the Norfolk Island trade, the owners of the steamer Hikurangi are dispatching the vessel for the island next Monday. One trip has already been made by* the steamer, but owing to the comparatively short notice, little cargo was carried; it is hoped that with the longer notice more cargo will be shipped. The trade between the island and Auckland is not sufficiently large for the owners to continue the service unassisted and they are still trying to obtain a subsidy from the Government. The round trip occupies only about nine days and, owing to the other island services being catered for by the Union Company and the Government, there is no service into which the Hikurangi could be put during the three weeks’ interval between the Norfolk Island trips.
