SLOW CRICKET

COUNTY JUST AVOIDS FOLLOW-ON • AUSTRALIA MAKES 245 Reed: 9.50 a.m. LONDON, Monday. The Australian cricketers today continued their match against Glamorgan at Swansea. When stumps were drawn on Saturday the visitors had made 149 runs for two wickets—Bradman 27, and McCabe 28, being the not-out men. The match was resumed in fine weather, but the wicket was wet following heavy rain. Bradman and McCabe played briskly from the outset, the latter reaching 50 in SO minutes. When the partnership had added 101 McCabe was caught in the slips. Richardson soon went and Bradman was also the victim of Ryan. He gave a less attractive display than usual. The total was now live for 215. Ryan and Mercer routed the tail-enders, and the innings closed for 245. Gramophone records were broadcast through loud-speakers during the play, and the announcer made sly jokes at the expense of the Australian rabbits. COUNTY MAKES 99 Wall broke the county opening partnership at 14. Rain stopped play for half an hour, and upon resumption the wicket was treacherous. Wickets fell in quick succession. Grimmett baffled the batsmen, but the last w icket added Tl, thereby saving a follow-on. Walker is showing remarkable form now, not having allowed a bye during his last three innings. Grimmett, with six v T eeks of the tour left, has already exceeded his 120 wickets taken in 1926. Ponsford and Jackson made 3 8 in a-quarter of an hour left for play before stumps were drawn. The attendance was 28,000, which is easily the highest in a county game for the tour. The scores are: AUSTRALIA First Innings. PONSFORD, b E.
