EDUCATIONAL CHANGES
TAKAPUNA’S OPPOSITION Strenuous opposition to the report of the Education Committee regarding changes in the system was voiced at a meeting of the Takapuna School Committee last evening. Members were unanimous in declaring that the issue should not be a party one and decided to forward a resolution declaring its opposition to centralisation, as proposed in the report to the Prime Minister, the Minister of Education, the leaders of the Reform and Labour Parties, and to the member for Waitemata. Mr. A. Harris. The chairman, the Rev. J. Hiddlestone, considered that the proposed changes in administration would be detrimental to the cause of education by discouraging the work of committees and board members. Others agreed that the saving in cost would be small, giving as an instance of the effect of Government' dentralisation the increasing cost of school' books.
