WESTERN MAORI SEAT
THREE CANDIDATES? SUCCESSOR TO SIR MAUL Special to THE SUN NEW PLYMOUTH, Today. It is believed that three candidates will contest the late Sir Maui Pomare’s seat —the Western Maori district. The Rev. Robert Taliu Haddon, a close friend of Sir Maui’s, will stand in the Reform interest. A Ratana candidate has been selected and a prominent Taupo Maori, Taite will also stand, probably as a United candidate. * Mr. Haddon is a grand-nephew of the faipous chief Titikawaru. For the past 30 years he has been a minister of. the church and is at present superintendent of the Methodist Maori Mission. Meetings are at present being held in the Waikato to further the interests of Mr. Haddon and it is believed that Princess Te Puea. who wields a powerful influence from Ngaruawahia, will support his candidature. Mr. Haddon will also be supported by the South Taranaki tribes.
