DIFFICULTY OVER FARES

PASSENGER TRANSPORT CO. COMPLAINS QUESTION OF NEW SCALE Complaint was made to the Transport Board today by the Passenger Transport Company that a misinterpretation of the hoard's resolution adopting the report on Mr. G. C. Gorrie, an accountant who> reported on the company’s application to increase fares, had apparently happened. Mr. Gorrie recommended that the company be permitted to make certain increases in its cash fares, and an accountant engaged by the company suggested other increases and certain reductions in order to bring all fares to a common rate a mile. The company contended that the board had adopted Mr. Gorrie’s report raising cash fares and had enforced the reductions proposed by the company’s accountant. Further, there were some anomalies in the scale of fares fixed by the board. Commenting, the chairman, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, said that the board did not want to tie the company down too closely. He moved that a report by the secretary to the board, Mr. W. St. J. Clarke, be received and a reply he sent to the company claiming that the board had made no mistake. Mr. Clarke was authorised to negotiate with the company for removal of anomalies. Mr. Allum, remarked that he understood that the increase in the petroi-tax would necessitate the company’s approaching the hoard again.
