COURSING
AUCKLAND CLUB’S MEET RECORD CROWD SEES SPORT The large and enthusiastic attendance at the meeting of the Auckland Coursing Club, held on the Otahuhu Trotting Club’s course at Mangere Crossing on Saturday afternoon, promises a healthy revival of this popular pastime in Auckland. The attendance was easily a record for the present club, and the high standard of coursing displayed kept the large gathering on its toes till the meeting concluded. Two stakes were set down for decision, but owing to the failing light, the final of the open stake will be run off next Saturday, and the remaining ties of tlie maiden stake will be disposed of at the same time. The plumpton was in splendid condition, and the strong, well-trained hares provided some excellent coursing. Mr. M. Freeney carried out the duties of judge, and Mr. R. Polkinghorne acted as slipper. The outstanding feature of the meeting was the defeat in the first round of J. Crowley’s Beau Geste. which won the Waterloo! Cup at Patea last week, by L. C. Buckenham’s The Shrew, while in the second tie W. Sheeran’s Glimpse accounted for L. C. Buckenham’s The Crow, which captured the Waterloo Purse at the same meeting.
