RATIONALIST ADDRESS

“Many years ago the Maori tohnnga practised on the credulities of his race. Gngrland was also invaded in the past by all §orts of quack mediums. Time after time those charlatans duped learned men. In spite of exposures other charlatans arose.” Thus Mr. 11. F. Way, in an address on “Spooks, Crooks and Fakirs.” given in the Majestic Theatre last evening under the auspices of the Association for the Advancement of Rationalism. Mr. Way quoted authorities who had ridiculed present-dav beliefs in spiritualism. The mere fact that a scientific man was hoaxed by mediums into conviction was nothing. The average professor was not the man to detect swindles of this nature. Such deceptions should be placed in the hands of practical conjurors.
