HORSE DESTROYED
HYMESTRASON’S FATE INJURED WHILE JUMPING That fine jumper, Hymestrason, was destroyed at Awapuni yesterday. His exit means a severe loss to the wellknown Manawatu owner-trainer, R. E. Hatch. Hymestrason was a well-backed third favourite in the Awapuni Steeplechase on Thursday, but he struck the second fence hard and received such injuries that his rider pulled him up. The Hymestra—Native Lady gelding was a splendid jumper, young as the.y go, for he had to be destroyed on his seventh official birthday. At last month’s Wellington meeting Hymestrason won both hack steeplechase events, and so well did he score, especially in his second outing, that he was given more than an outside chance of winning this year’s Grand National Steeplechase.
C.J.C. SCRATCHINGS Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, Today. Habit and Rangitahi were scratched this morning for all engagements at the Grand National meeting.
