INNINGS TO SPARE

AUSTRALIAN’S MARGIN AGAINST SOMERSET BRIGHTER BATTING Reed. 11.5 a.m. LONDON, Thursday. The Australian cricketers won the match against Somerset by an innings and 158 runs. * Bradman and Jackson batted beautifully until they neared their centuries, when caution was shown. Bradman got his first, iu 185 minutes. The side’s 200 had taken 205 minutes. Jackson’s belated first century of the tour occupied 220 minutes. The pair had put on 231 when Bradman was brilliantly caught. He hit 13 fours. Five runs later Jackson was out. He hit 15 boundaries, and gave one chance. He scored freely today all round the wicket. McCabe failed, but Richardson hit a sixer, and in attempting a second was caught at the fence. Woodfull hit vigorously, and A’Beckett was also severe, hitting White for four and six in one over. The Australian innings lasted 365 minutes. SOMERSET AGAIN Somerset began its second innings at 4.20 p.m. The first wicket fell at 17. Four wickets were down for 26, and six for 43. Grimmett first appeared when the score was 22, and soon had the batsmen struggling hopelessly. Wellard, however, hit a tremendous sixer off him over the pavilion, and incurred several minutes’ delay in recovering the ball. The same batsman, emulating Richardson, lifted one into a cemetery nearby. McCabe broke Grimmett’s long run of triumph, skittling Hunt, but the googlyite ended the match at 6.10 p.m., when Marshall skied one to Bradman. The scores are:— AUSTRALIA. First Innings.
