NEW WORLD RECORDS
AMERICA LEADS THE WAY ONE TO AUSTRALIA Just received is the list of new world’s athletic records, as passed by the International Amateur Athletic Federation. America heads the list. Of the 17 new records created, five were credited to that country. Four went to Finland, two each to England. Germany and Sweden, and one to Italy and Hayti. There is only one world’s record standing to the credit of Australia. That is Anthony (“Nick”) Winter’s effort in the running hop. step, and jump in the Olympiad at Paris on July 7, 1924. A congress was held at Berlin. Germany, on May 20 and 21 of this year. Those approved are: 100 Yards: Sisec., E. Tolan OJ.S.A 1.000 Yards: 2min 11 l-ssec . Ellis (England). 10 Miles: 50min 15sec, Paavo Nurmi (Finland). ■4OO Metres: 47sec. E. Spencer (U.S.A.). 500 Metres: lmin 35 sec, Tavernari (Italy). 15 Kilometres: 46rnin 46 3-ssec, Paavo Nurmi (Finland). 25 Kilometres: lhr 23min 45 4-ssec,‘ Harper (England). 20 Kilometres: lhr 43min 7 4-ssee. Sipila (Finland). One Hour: 19,210 metres, Paavo Nurmi (Finland). Broad Jump: 26ft 1-Sin, Silvio Cat or (Hayti). Pole Vault: 14ft ljin, Lee Barnet OJ.S.A.). Discus Throw: 163 ft SJin. Eric Kreni (U.S.A.». Shot Putt (161 b): 52ft Tlin. E. Ilirshfield (Germany). Javelin: 232 ft 11 5-Sin, Lundquist (Sweden). 110 Metre Hurdles: 14 2-ssec, Wennstrom (Sweden). 1 Mile Relay: Smin 13 2-ssee, U.S.A. 4CM) Metres Relay: 40 4-sse>c. Germany. Those performances equalling existing world’s records which were also sanctioned are: 300 Yards: 30 3-Ssee. G. Butler (England ). 100 Metres: 10 2-ssec, E. Tolan (U.S.A.), twice. 120 Yards Hurdles: 14 2-ssec. Wenustrom (Sweden).
