DOMESTIC REMANDED
ARRESTED FOR SHOPLIFTING Jessie Jefferson took a fancy to a pair of women’s silk stockings and a duchess runner in a Karangahape Road business firm yesterday, hut she was seen by an assistant to p\jt the goods under her coat. Jefferson, a domestic, aged 45, was charged at the Police Court today with the theft of the goods, valued at Ss. She pleaded guilty. “She was seen to take them yesterday afternoon by an assistant,” said Chief-Detective Hammond. “When she was taken to the office she admitted the offence. She is a widow and is a cook by occupation, though she has been out of a job for a while. Five other pairs of stockings with the price tickets on were found in her rooms later by the police.” Mr. F. K. Hunt remanded accused to come up for sentence on August 6, and to remain in the custody of the Salvation Army in the meantime.
