STRAND

“THE MARRIAGE PLAYGROUND”, To referee a sand fight, to care for a baby and to meet his sweetheart all at the same time, is the triple acting performed by Frederic March in one of the scenes of Paramount’s “The Marriage Playground,” which comes to the Strand Theatre today. In this picture March finds himself the centre of a sand fight on the Lido beach, in which Philippe de Lacy, Anita Louise and Little Mitzi engage with much spirit. At the minute the battle is beginning Anita Louise dumps Donald Smith, nine-months-old baby, into his surprised arms. As he tries to stop the fight, and to protect the baby, Mary Brian, elder sister of the children and the girl with whom he is in love, steps into the scene. “The Marriage Playground” is based on the famous best-selling novel, “The Children,” by Edith Wharton. Among those in the supporting cast of the production are Lilyan Tashnian, Huntley Gordon. Ivay Francis, William Austin, Seena Owen and Joan Standing. Lothar Mendes directed the picture. He was the director of Clara Bow’s “Dangerous Curves” and Buddy Rogers's and Nancy Carroll's “Illusion.” The picture has pathos, romance, comedy and drama. It is real entertainment. Included in the same programme is a number of excellent talkie shorts.
