ROXY
“SOUTH SEA ROSE” Lenore Ulric, talented Broadway star, is at tho Roxy Theatre this week in “South Sea Rose,” her second Fox Movietone all-talking picture. As the exotic and voluptuous maid of a tropical island. Miss Ulric’s role is similar to the memorable characterisations she created in her two most famous stage hits, “Lulu Belle” and “Kiki.” “South Sea Rose” is an adroitly contrived comedy-dram a with the bulk of its stormy action laid in a remote tropical island and aboard a trading vessel on the high seas. It is full of bizarre adventure and ruthless events, stirred by the tempestuous lass who is restored to civilisation by a rough crew of wayfarers. Charles Bickford, who won considerable fame by his performance in “Dynamite,” portrays a hardened sea captain. Tho remainder of the supporting cast include Kenneth MacKenna, Tom Patricola and Farrell Macdonald. A particularly line supporting programme of talkie featurettes is also being presented at the Roxy, of which the chief item is the capital comedydrama, “Swellhead,” starring the popular comedian, Johnny Hiu^s.
