Cane-knives and bottles flourished in a brawl between British and Italian cane-cutters at Cross Roads, near Innisfail. Feeling is running high. The trouble arose over the filling of a vacancy in a mixed gang. The British chief ganger selected a fellow- countryman, but the Italians wanted au Italian. They refused to allow the Britisher to sleep at the barracks. A bottle was thrown and the fracas followed.
