PROGRAMME TIT-BITS AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. STATIONS The Congress Hall Band, under the conductorship of Mr. T. Paice, will supply the main portion of lYA's programme this evening. Included in their items is a part-song by the members of the band, “The Soldiers’ Chorus” from' “Faust.” The popular Bohemian Duo will be heard in numbers from their very extensive repertoire, and another appearance will be made by the Salon Trio. Two new singers will be heard from 3YA. One, Miss Jean Johnson, contralto, is a sister of the well-known radio baritone of Christchurch, Mr. E. J. Johnson. The-other new artist is Mr. J. A. Blytli, at one time a Cathedral chorister, now' a tenor. Other vocalists on the programme will be Miss Thelma Ayres and Mr. F. C. Penfold. Miss Florence Brewins, elocutioniste, will recite, among other things, “The Night Watch on the Charlotte Jane,” written by the late J. E. Fitzgerald during the voyage of that emigrant ship. The programme to be given by the Studio Octet under Mr. Harold Beck w'ill be mainly operatic. A new male voice quartet, the Radions, will be singing at 4YA. A studio programme of popular j items will be broadcast from 4QG, j and some music will be provided for the benefit of those who wish to i dance in their own homes. Later in the evening the main wrestling bout j will be described from the stadium < and afterward more dance music, with studio items interspersed, will be : transmitted. • THURSDAY/EVENING | lYA's programme for Thursday has j j been arranged by the Auckland Or- j | phans' Club Orchestra under the direc- j tion of Mr. Harold Baxter and asI sisted by vocalists from the Orphans’ j Club. The orchestra contains up- ! ward of 40 very fine instrumentalists, ! and previous programmes have been very well received. One of their numbers is a march entitled “The Orphans.” written for and dedicated to the Auckland Club by the composer. Mr. Moor-Karoly, a very prominent Auckland musician. The soloists for the evening will be Messrs. Ed. I Churchhouse and Alf. Fogerty. humour i will be supplied by Mr. Ned Fort, : and instrumental items by Messrs, i Vic. Carter and Benn. | The Wellington Artillery Band, i playing under the conductorship of 1 Captain T. Herd, will give another lof their varied and interesting proi grammes during the concert session : from 2YA. TJie band will be assisted ■ by Miss Gladys Edwardes (soprano), i Mr. William Renshaw (tenor). Miss I Nora Green (contralto) and Mr. Claude | Moss (baritone), humorous recitations I being given by Miss Gracie Kerr, j The novelty portion of the programme will include items by the Golden Hula I Quintet, a combination which specialises in Hawaiian music. Quartets to be sung by the Melodious Four at 3YA will include the popular negro spiritual, “Swing Low. Sweet Chariot,” two of Walford ' Davies’s "Nursery Rhymes” and j Brahms’s “Cradle Song.” A number of fine duets and solos will be sung. Including three of the Hebridean Songs, the vocalists for these being Mr. T. D. Williams and Mr. Russell Sumner. The orchestral programme by the Studio Octet will include a number of items new to 3YA listeners. * • • The progiamme from 4QG, which has been arranged by Mr. George Sampson, F.R.C.O. (conductor of the Queensland State and Municipal Orchestra) will represent the second of the series of revised classic recitals which are being given under Mr. Sampson's control. Light musical combinations will be used and the items although of a high quality will be of a bright nature. At the conclusion of the programme dance music will be relayed from the Trocadero. * • • Friday evening A particularly interesting item on the programme at IYA will be the song-cycle, “Gloria,” composed by del Reigo to words by Coleridge. This will be given by Madame Mary Towsey and Mr. John Bree. The Studio Trio will be performing and violin solos will be played by Miss Ina Bos worth. tlie Fireside” and “The \) illow Song, three excellent numbers which should receive adequate treatment by this artist. Mr. A. B. Chappell, M.A.. will give another of his interesting “Topical Talks” and a gramophone recital by Mr. Karl Atkinson will be on “Stars of the Record World.” 2YA is broadcasting on relay from Victoria College a debate by the College Debating Society, the subject being: ’’That the world is not really progressing.” This relay will no doubt prove to be as interesting and entertaining as any previously broadcast.
