SPRING FLOWERS
HOW THEIR CHEERINESS BRIGHTENS A HOME We women like to keep our homes cheery! Yet, sometimes, there seems to be a touch of emptiness about them; but put a few flowers in each room and see the difference! It is good to find Polly, the Persian, purring on the stair-landing—or Peter, the terrier, barking a welcome from the window-seat. Yet, if you cannot have pets to give cheeriness to your home, at least you can have—flowers! A room without flowers is like a woman without a smile. Even a mossy bundle of snowdrop bulbs will bring a thrill of life to a mautleshelf while a box of sprouting crocuses is a joy for weeks. We say books are company—and so they are. But they do not change from day to day and fling us greeting, saying in flower language; “See, my petals aro out of their green hoods today!” or “I’m unfurling my foliage; just watch me!” You cannot feel entirely spiritless if violets shyly nod their fragrance at you as you cross the threshold of even the most humble little home.
