Proficiency Badge Night Mr. N. M. Matheson advises that the Proficiency Badge examinations on Tuesday, August 5, will be held nt St. James’s Hall, and not at West Street. First-Class Tests Scouts are reminded that the next First-Class tests will be held at Western Springs on Saturday. Scouters’ Dinner The annual Scouters’ dinner will be held at the Mecca Cafe next Saturday, commencing at 5.30 p.m. Scouters who have not already done so are requested to inform headquarters if they intend to be present, so that catering arrangements may be made accordingly. First Gordon Group Hawk-eye supplies the following First Gordon news: “A combined parents’ evening (Scouts and Cubs) will be held on Friday, August 1, when demonstrations of Scout-craft and Cub work will be given. An important item of the evening will be the “going-up” ceremony, when several Cubs will be invested in the troop.” * * During the next term holidays a party of 12 Rotorua Scouts will be eye ing to Tongariro, arrangements for the expedition already being in hand. This troop has a large membership, and a very progressive spirit exists among the boys. # White Swan Troop The White Swan Trop will hold their first initiation ceremony on the evening of Monday, August 4. The First Cornwell Rover Crew and representatives of the Scout troop will attend the ceremony. First Cornwell News A successful pound night for Scouts was held by the First Cornwell troop last Friday. Many games and relays were carrieef out, a game of handball proving most popular. The evening concluded with supper, served by the Scouts round the camp-fire. Parents and friends of the troop are asked to remember the “bring and buy” evening, to be held on Thursday, August 14. Items will be given by the Scouts and visitors. The success of the Christmas camp depends on the attendance and the parents’ interest in this effort.
