STOLE OVERCOAT
“HAD SMELLS IN MY NOSE” PORTER GETS ONE MONTH “I've got smells in my nose,” was the excuse advanced at the Police Court today by Frederick John Taylor, for stealing an overcoat valued at £3 15s, the property of George F. Dengate, of Thames, on May 16. Taylor, a porter, aged 26, pleaded guilty. Chief-Detective Hammond said that Taylor had been employed at Thames Hospital as a porter and had stolen the overcoat, which had belonged to a patient. Accused had been in continual trouble since boyhood but was a good worker. His last conviction was in March, 1929, when he got two months for theft. Taylor: I’ve got smells in my nose and they seem to affect me. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.: Don’t tali: nonsense. Why do you keep on stealing? Taylor said he was willing to go to work in the country. Accused waj-s sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, the overcoat to be returned to its owner.
