NEW RAILWAY BRIDGE
NGARUAWAHIA SPAN PROGRESSES COMPLETION BY DECEMBER The new railway bridge over the Waikato, near Ngaruawahia, will be completed by December. Good progress has been made, but the contractors have been held up through the late delivery of steel from England. All the piles and cylinders are in position and the concrete work is up to schedule. The fabrication of the steel for tho bridge is being done at Price’s works at Thames. The workshops there are busy just now as similar work is being done for the Whenuakura Bridge at Wanganui. Both bridges will require a large amount of steel. The new railway bridge will replace the present one across the Waikato near Ngaruawahia. This is now considered to have served its purpose for heavy traffic and will be converted into a traffic bridge. This will do away with congestion of motor traffic at busy times on the main Auckland Hamilton thoroughfare.
