ONE CASE FOR TRIAL

CRIME IN PALMERSTON NORTH JUDGE’S CONGRATULATIONS Press Association PALMERSTON X., Today. Opening- the quarterly session of the Supreme Court, Mr. Justice Blair said that Palmerston Xorth was to be congratulated for two reasons, namely, its elevation to the dignity of a city and the fact that there was only one criminal case for trial. The case was only quasi -criminal, involving the driver of a car in alleged negligence, thereby causing the death of another person. The Grand Jury returned a true bill against John Joseph Evans, charged with negligent driving, thereby causing death at Mount Stewart, near Awahure. At the Supreme Court. Mt. Justice Blair and Mr. J. L. C. Merton, president of the Law Society, paid tributes to the late Sir Robert Stout. The Bench and Bar stood for a period in silence as a tribute to the former Chief Justice.
