LONDON
“UNDER THE GREENWOOD TREE” In the o il-dialogue version of Thomas Hardy’s novel, “Under t\ie Greenwood Tree,” which Cinema Art Films is releasing at the London Theatre, are some of the greatest artists in England, culled from the stage and silent screen. Harry Laehman showed wonderful strategy in selecting his cast for the picture, which, was one of the first all-British all-talkies to be shown in Auckland. The featured roles are played by actors whose ability has already been proved, and whose voices underwent rigid tests. Among them is Marguerite Allan, John Batten, a clever young Auckland boy, Nigel Barrie and Wilfrid Shine. Tho singing and harmonising of the famous Gotham Quartet is something that will never be forgotten. Unusual interest also centres around tho short talkie featurettes. LECTURE ON FRENCH HISTORY The seventh lecture in the course of free public addresses on French life and history will be delivered in the University I-lall tonight. The subject of “The Influence of the Salons” will bo delivered by Miss D. L. Miller, lecturer in French. The public is invited to attend.
