TAHITI FURTHER DELAYED. —The Royal Mail liner Tahiti has been further delayed by stormy weather, and is now expected to reach Wellington from San Francisco, via Papeete and Rarotonga. at five o'clock this evening. Owing to the increased delay, her departure lioni Wellington for Sydney has been postponed until 3 p.m. on Thursday. ARMADALE AT COLON.—Reported to have reached Colon on Saturday, the Armadale is. on route from New York to New Zealand. The vessel is under charter to the A. and A. Line, and her general merchandise cargo is for discharge at Suva, Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton. Timaru, Dunedin, and Sydney. The New Zealand Shipping Company is the local agent ROTORUA LOADING.—The New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Rotoriia arrived at Dluff on Saturday from Wellington to commence her homeward loading. She will subsequent!v load at Port Chalmers. Timaru, Lyttelton and Wellington. The vessel is due back at Wellington on August 13, and is scheduled to clear that port on August 16 for Southampton and London, via the Panama Canal. MIRRABOOKA LEAVES NlUE.—Spedding. Ltd., has received advice that the Swedish motor-ship Mirrabooka cleared Niue Island on Saturday, and is due at Auckland on Thursday. Tho vessel is inaugurating a new cargo service between Pacific Coast ports and New Zealand. She is bringing cargo from Los Angeles and San Erancisco for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Bluff, and Australia. A call was made at Niue Island to load fruit which should have been brought to New Zealand by the Government motcr-ship Maui Pomare, now laid up for rephirs at Wellington. THE PORT FREMANTLE.—The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company advises that the Port Fremantle, on account of being unable to loud at Gisborne through the rough conditions there, was dispatched front there for Auckland at about 10 o’clock this morning. She is expected to arrive her* it abefut 10 a.m. tomorrow and is to berth at King’s Wharf to load the local -n----signment of her cargo for London. she will then return to Gisborne for loading, making that her final port. The vessel is expected to leave Auckland again on Friday morning, and it is hoped to dispatch her finally from Gisborne late on Saturday night for London. via the Panama Canal. MONTREAL SAILINGS. National Steamships advise that the following steamers have been fixed to load at Canadian ports lor New Zealand: Canadian Transporter was to sail from Montreal on July 25 for Auckland. Wellington. THE TASMANIAN SERVICE.—The proposals of the Federal Ministry to improve the Bass Strait shipping agjricwere announced by the Postmastcr-*>r-eral. Mr. Lyons, at a conference af Tasmania n public organisations held recently. Mr. Lyons said that the (krternment plan was for a ten-year contract with the shipping company. For the first three years it was proposed to maintain the Bass Strait service with tbt Nairana and Locngana, keeping tbs Oonah in reserve. At the end of that period a new oil-burning steamer of the type of the Nairana. with such improvements as additional two-berth cabin*, would be ready to carry on the service in conjunction with the Nairana. The new steamer would be designed to serve either Launceston or Fumie.
