SECRETARY ABSOLUM GETS RETIRING ALLOWANCE “HE’S A JOLLY GOOD FELLOW In a voice ringing with sincerity and tinged with emotion, Mr. R. L. Absolum, the popular secretary of the Otahuhu Trotting Club, yesterday afternoon returned thanks to members for the consideration shown him in the merger agreement. Air. H»‘ expressed sincere appreciation to those wfco had

supported the merger, as in so doinp they had granted him a pension- He accepted it humbly, and felt gratification that his services— rendered to the best of his ability in the interests of the club and the sport—had been appreciated to such an extent.

OLD ASSOCIATIONS Air. Absolum. after referring to oH associations with the club extendmp

over 30 years, said a pleasing feature of the present situation was that several of the oldest members favoured the merger, which all must realise wa* the best policy for all concerned in the interest of the people’s popular pastime. He could not relinquish hi* secretarial position without regret, ** his heart had always been in the work, and he remarked “a better job I never had.” It was pleasing to know that the Otahuhu Club was not losing it* status, and the speaker expressed the opinion that it would not be long before the beneficial influence of the merger would be felt in trotting circle* As the secretary terminated his remarks, the assemblage rose and sans “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow."
