IN CAMBRIDGE DISTRICT COMPANIES ANNUAL REPORTS From Oy.r Own Correspondent CAMBRIDGE, Friday. The following arc the reports of the Cambridge and Bruntwood Dairy Companies, to be placed before the annual meetings next week: THE CAMBRIDGE COMPANY The Cambridge Company’s chairman, Mi-. F. H. Anderson, reports that the extremely favourable weather conditions during the past season, combined with liberal fertilising and pasture management, have accounted for another large increase in the company’s supply, the total butter-fat handled being 3,807,7021 b, which was manufactured into 2,995 tons of cheese, 774 tons of creamery butter and 75 tons of whey butter. The directors made forward sales of part of the season’s make of both butter and cheese and this policy showed a very considerable advantage compared with realisations on the consignment market. References were made by the chairman to the low prices, and he went on to state that butter stocks unsold have been valued at 135 s a cwt, and cheese stocks at 75s a cwt. The company had kept up its reputation for quality, which was satisfactory in view of the adverse reports from London re cheese. Monavale and Fencourt factories were first and second in the seasons’ grading for the Auckland Province. The company also gained third place in the season’s gradings in the province for butter. The profit and loss account for the year showed an estimated surplus in the cheese account of £14,649 12s 7d, and in the butter account £6,531 17s. In arriving at these amounts £3,026 9s had been allowed for depreciation. These surpluses would allow of the final payments as follow:—Average advanco to cheese suppliers, Is 5.08 d; final payment, 1.32 d: total pay-out, Is 6.40 d. To butter suppliers:—Average advance, Is 3.3 d; final pay-out, I.105d; total, Is 4.405 d. The report referred to the directors’ endeavour to keep the plant up-to-date, and a tribute was paid to the staff. Messrs. T. Robinson and F. H. Anderson, who retire from the directorate by rotation, offer themselves for reelection. Is 3.27 d (Is S.CBd; cost a lb to f.0.b., 1.62 d (2.06 d). Cheese-making : Number of suppliers, 225 (198); lb milk received, 64,466,832 (55,491,731); lb butter-fat received, 2,665,935 (2,272,010); average, test. 4.13 (4.09); tons cheese made. 2,995 (2,592); yield of cheese. 2.80 (2.72); lb milk to green cheese, 9.61 (9.56); tons whey butter made, 75 (TO); average price realised. 8.09 d (9.Old); cost a lb to f.0.b., 1.31 d (1.39 d).
THE BRUNTWOOD COMPANY Reporting on behalf of the Bruntwood Company’s directors, the chairman, Mr. 11. J. Ambury, stated that advances had been made during the year at the rate of 16.54 d. During the year 12,865,6841 b of milk were received, yielding 515,000.721 b butter-fat. From this 1,354,4521 b, or 604 tons 13cwt lqr cheese, were made; also 406.501 b but-ter-fat for butter-making. The average test was 3.99733, and the average gx*ading 92.71623. The cost of manufacture was 1.31930 d a lb. The season just ended had been a record one for production, also for quality, the returns showing an average of 74 per cent, of finest cheese. The company had no second-grade cheese. The board recommended that out of the surplus of £2,235 10s 9d, a further payment of Id a lb butter-fat be made, bringing the total pay-out up to 17.54 a lb butter-fat. Thanks were extended to tho staff for the splendid results associated with the manufactured product Mr. J. W. Bartlett and the chairman retire by rotation, but again offer themselves for re-election.
