WHITE LABOUR WANTED ON SUGAR-CANE FIELD
QUEENSLAND’S PLEA WORTH £10,000,000 United P.A.—By Telegraph —Copyright Reed. 10.25 a.m. CANBERRA, Today. A deputation accompanied by the Premier of Queensland, Mr. E. A. Moore, asked the Prime Minister, Mr J. H. Scullin, to renew the protective sugar agreement and emargo against, the employment of coloured labour od the cane iields. It was stated that 300,000 acres were under cultivation and that 900 per cent, of those employed in the industry were of British origin, while the sugar exported yearly reduced the adverse trade balance by at least £2,000,000, in addition to being responsible for the circulation of £10,000,000 of new money in the Commonwealth annually. Mr. Scullin promised to place the representations before Cabinet.
