PLUCKY DOBBS

LEAGUER PLAYS ON, THOUGH INJURED N.Z. TEAM’S TOUR According to a. Sydney exchange, on the Monday after the New Zealand League team’s second match with New South Wales, the visitors’ list of more or less seriously injured players was: Dobbs, forward, torn ligament of left leg. Pearce, winger, head injury. Wetherill, centre, bad eye. Stephenson, forward, face injuries. Barchard, forward, injured arm. Timms, forward, injured ankle. Tittleton, winger, injured ankle. The case of Dobbs provides an epic

of pluck. The forward suffered his leg injury early in the second New South Wales game, but kept going throughout. New Zealand had lost Pearce just before half-time, and Dobbs should have gone off also, but, although not of much value in the loose work. he gave his weight to

the pack in the scrummage. Spectators and the New South Wales players were keenly sympathetic when they saw the game fellow hobbling about the field, but they did not realise just what agony ho suffered. Today Dobbs is in bed at the Hotel Arcadia, undergoing attention by a doctor. It was found that he had so severely wrenched the ligament of his leg that a small piece of bone had been torn away. Pearce, who was examined at St. Vincent’s Hospital on Saturday, is still feeling sore about tine head, but Wetherill and Stephenson will soon bo fit. The ankles of Timms and Tittleton. however, are causing concern, and Barchard, who was a player on Saturday, complains of a strained arm.
