TAKAPUNA GRAMMAR PLAYS ROTORUA ANNUAL MATCH A very large attendance of spectators, all wearing the schools' <i>o!-ours, barracking and cheering thlir teams to victory, assembled the Devonport Domain yesterday afternoon for the annual Rugby match between the Rotorua High School and the Takapuna Grammar School. The play started at a very fast pace. SYom a set scrum at the centre of the field the ball was cleverly hooked by Takapuuna, Hay getting it away smartly to Foster, who passed to Buckley. Tho latter cut in, passed to Bade, and the speedy wing dashed 20 yards down the side-line and scored at the corner amid great enthusiasm. Hade’si kick went wide. From a loos© scrum Ryder, oil Rotorua, followed up fast, and scored. Pepson converted. From play in midfield Mitchell picked up, and passed to Parker, who in-passed to Pepson, to Ryder, who. after a brilliant run, scored l\is second try. Pepson failed to convert. Half-time score: Rotorua, 8; Takapuna Grammar, 3. After kicking off, play was very fast, both sets of backs handling the ball well. From a set scrum tho ball was handled by practically all the Takapuna backs, ending with Warren scoring a converted try. Rotorua, 8; Takapuna Grammar, 8. From the kick-off the Rotorua forwards now took a hand in the game, and carried the ball down to the Grammar line, and from a scrum near line Matthews scored. Pepson • to convert. Play became very exciting at the change-round for the last Quarter. A penalty was awarded Takapuna, Foster kicking, and fast following up by Sidford saw him score a try under the posts. Foster missed the uprights. Rotorua, 11; Takapuna Grammar, 11. After a final flutter by both teams, Bade made one or two fast runs, but rhe defence was very solid, and he failed to reach the line, and thus an oxciting game ended in a draw, 11 points all.
