“VENGEANCE” Jack Holt hasn’t had so much beard on his face in' many a day as he wore while making “Vengeance,” the Columbia all-talking drama of life at a West African trading post, which is now running at the Roxy Theatre. And the worst part of, it was that it was a real beard—a rough stubble that had to be cultivated for at least a week before the picture started shooting. Holt kept it trimmed with a pair of scissors, but as for shaving, that was out of the question, for the part he plays in this production is that of a man who has spent many years in the tropics—and because he hates the heat and the life generally, he has just naturally grown careless in his appearance. The part Holt plays in “Vengeance” is one of the strongest roles from a dramatic standpoint that lie has appeared in for several years. It gives him a wide scope for his superlative acting ability and presents liis personality in an entirely new and most attractive light. Others in the cast include Dorothy Revier, George Pearce and Hayden Stevenson. Archie Mayo, one of the screen’s directorial genii who has to his credit many outstanding successes, handled the megaphone. Th© Roxy’s renowned supports complete the programme.
