ELLIS FOR SINGLETON LIMOSIN AT RICCARTON Special to THE SUN WELLINGTON, Today. Singleton won in great style on the second day at Gisborne, and when he comes down this way he will bo a tougher opponent than he has been In the past. He will be ridden in most of his races in the new season by A. E Ellis. The Trentham-trained Lirnosin is being spoken of in various quarters as a likely winner of this year's Winter Cup. The Limond gelding is a pretty good sort, but he lias not been up very long and I do not think lie wiil be ready in time for a hard race like the Riccarton mile. Limosin. however, looks like having a good season in front of him. Arrow Lad Is to make a reappearance at the Manawatu winter meeting at the end of this month, and there was talk of H. Gray having the mount on him. Arrow Lad is a smart sprinter when at his best, but he has not raced for a while, and probably will not be seen to advantage before Hie spring One of the hacks who ran below expectations at Trentham was Malahat., He was unfortunate in tlio running on the opening day, and in consequence the support for him was continued later' in the meeting. He has done well since and when asked to race again may make amends for his Trentham failures. Mala hat is seen to the greatest advantage when the courses are soft. Shortly appears to be coming right how, and good races from him are looked for at the Manawatu wintex* meeting. He showed signs of returning form when he ran second to The Sun on the last day of the Trentham meeting, and on that form might not bo long off the winning list.
