£360 COMPENSATION

AWARDED TO INJURED FRENCH FOOTBALLER It seems that at Blois, some months ago, a Rugby football player received such serious injuries in the course of a game that they resulted in the amputation of his right legt (says a British writer). Compensation to the amount of £360 and the costs of the operation has been awarded by the Blois tribunal to the sufferer against the player judged to be the aggressor, as distinct from any penalty upon the club itself. Let us hope this action will have a chastening effect on others. It is noteworthy that last season five players died as the result of injuries received in French Rugby matches, and the matter is to be brought before the Chamber of Deputies. It will be a difficult matter to legislate for, since the game must necessarily be vigorous.
