SAID AT LAST!
DON BRADMAN GREATER THAN TRUMPER “SOUNDS LIKE SACRILEGE” At last it has been said, and it has been left to Jack Warrall to say it. This famous ex-international, dealing with the second test match, said, inter-alia: “It would appear, though it almost sounds like sacrilege, that a greater batsman than even Vict'or Trumper, has arrived. It is sad. because it is very nearly true. Sad, because I can’t bear to think that anyone would ever supplant the incomparable Victor. Incomparable as a cricketer! Incomparable ac a man! Such a gentle, good, natural man. It was a wonder he had the heart to belt the bowling. NATURE’S GENTLEMAN He could never resist an appeal. When he ran the sports depot in George Street, nearly opposite Hunter Streei. Victor was one day approached by the captain “and executive” of the Newsboys’ Cricket Club, who desired to pur chase an outfit. When they entered the depot they found that their eyes were bigger than their pockets. They did not have nearly enough money. In the end, Victor gave them all they wanted, as a donation. The boys were so pleased that they bought Vic. a vase, which, I believe, is still preserved in the Trumper family. Vic. was always giving things a wav. lie was nature’s gentleman. In a century there will only be one Trumper, and in a century there would only be one Don Bradman.
