ROYAL NEEDLEWORK

In the home industries section at a recent agricultural show at Stellenbosch, South Africa, there was exhibited a beautiful bed-spread, every stitch of which was worked by royal fingers. The Governor-General, the Earl of Athlone, who exhibited it, explained that it was begun twenty years ago by his wife, Princess Alice. When their daughter, Lady May Cambridge, was old enough she did part of the work, and the bedspread was completed in South Africa. It depicts scenes from classical mythology and. mounted on pink satin, is a perfect example of intricate and delicate needlework. Lady May Cambridge is a cousin of the Prince of Wales and was a bridesmaid at the wedding of Princess Mary.
