LONDON
“UNDER THE GREENWOOD TREE” Tho Mollstock instrumental choir, made famous by Thomas Hardy in his novel. “Under the Greenwood Tree,” the all dialogue film version of which is to be shown at the London Theatre today, re-sing the carols and village tunes on tho screen, after nearly a century has elapsed. They all return in the picture— Grandfather Dewey, Reuben Dewey and his son Dick, the young leader of the band. Tubby and Spinks, the village blacksmiths, Leaf the half wit. and Penny tho shoemaker, who plays tho “serpent.” You see them in the full dress of the period, with their folk songs and Christmas carols, and see bonnetted maidens and sleepy yokels strolling across the market place. The picture, which was directed by Harry Lachman. has been acclaimed a triumph throughout the world, and has a splendid cast, including Marguerite Allan, John Batten, the Auckland boy, and Nigel Barrie. Splendid talkie supports will also be shown.
