ROXY

“VENGEANCE” Strong dramatic situations, tense emotional climaxes, and convincing characterisations silhouetted against the fascinating background of life at a West African trading post make “Vengeance,” the Columbia all-talking drama, which is now at the Roxy Theatre, a picture that holds one spellbound. Interest centres about John Meadlifim (played by Jack Holt), who for several years has been in charge of a West African trading post. Meadliam, who is thoroughly tired of his job and fed up on the tropics, seeks relief, and the London office seiids out Charles Summers to take his place. From the moment of Summers’s arrival, an antagonism develops between himself and Meadharn. The result is a quarrel between the two men and a disagreement between husband and wife that eventually leads to th<* growth of love between Meadharn and the girl. The unexpected denouement, in which Meadharn proves the bigness of his soul by risking his life to save the man who has merited nothing but his contempt, is too good to reveal. It is a masterstroke of dramatic construction. A number of interesting talkie supports are also being shown. “Vengeance” is also being shown at the Regent Theatre, Epsom.
