BIG ROAD RACE

The longest and most important road race ever held in the Dominion will take place on Saturday, October 4. when the Xorth Canterbury Centre of the Xew Zealand Athletic, Cycling and Axemen’s Union will stage the Waimate to Christchurch road race, a distance of 140 miles. This race takes the place of the famous Timaru to Christchurch road race, which event lias been held on 22 occasions since 1899. The course from Waimate to Christchurch is an ideal one for road racing, being practically level, the roads are good, with several miles of bitumen and concrete. The big race is causing considerable interest in Canterbury and a largo number of riders have already signified their intention of competing. Xominations axe expected from all over the Dominion. The race will also decide the road championship of Xew Zealand and the winner of the fastest time will be decorated with the blue riband. A particularly attractive prize list has been prepared. The arrangements for the race are in the hands of Mr. P. C. Uucas, Christchurch, who has organised the j imam to Christchurch road race on nine occasions.
