RELIEF JOB STRIKERS REPENT HASTY ACTION

Hundreds of the men who were employed on telief works and who struck ou Wednesday rexiorted for work yesterday. They were told there was no work for them and that they were not likely to be called upon again when the works were resumed on Monday. The men were very dejected and returned to the Trades Hall, where they violently attacked the Government. As the result of a mass picketing demonstration at Temple relief works five arrests were made. A violent scuffle took place between the police and the demonstrators, during which one constable drew a baton to keep the crowd back. WORK FOR THOUSANDS Thousands of the State’s unemployed, skilled and unskilled, will obtain work under new plans which have been finalised by the Unemployment Council. About £350,000 will be allotted to the works to be carried out, which include the building of schools and hospitals, and sewerage and road construction.
