NORTH SHORE HEROINE
PRESENTATION AT SOCIAL EVENING Miss Eiia Munro, a Devonport girl who was the heroine in a magnificent rescue from drowning • t £ r ? e P eraon « at Muriwai Beach !" February, was presented with the New Zealand Royal Humane Society s gold medal last evening, this being the first time that a woman Has received the honour in New Zealand. The presentation was made at a social evening in the Parish Hall Devonport, organised by the North Shore Swimming Club, of which Miss Alunro has been elected a life member. Air. J. Hislop, deputy-mayor of Devonport. and Mr. A. E. Eagleton. Auckland representative of the Royal Humane Society, made the presentation of tlie medal and of a covering letter from the Court of Directors othe society. Air. Eagleton said that it was the first time he had known a. congratulatory letter to be sent by the society. Both made eulogistic reference to the courage of Aliss Munro. The social evening was organised by Air. C. Farquharson and the club committee. and the Kit Kat orchestra supplied the music. Among those present were: Airs. Waterhouse, in lapis blue floral ninon; Mrs. C. Farquharson. turquoise crepe de chine; Airs. B. Fountain, lavender brocade tinselled, and silver lace; Mrs. H. Bensted, printed black chiffon; Mrs. D. Alunro, sea blue taffeta; Mrs H. Speight (Hamilton), deep blue satin and tinsel. Miss Eila Alunro. in a black marocain frock, with primrose relief; Miss Alariano lavender crepe de chine; Miss D. Hine’ ivory satin and diamente; Miss AI. Beck’ cherry georgette; Miss O’Connor, leaf green taffeta; Miss J. Elroy, white georgette, ankle length; Miss M. Gill, rose satin and net; Miss AI. Watkins, ohurtreuse green georgette; Aliss Farquharson, lime satin frock; Aliss I. Sprageon. primrose shot taffeta; Miss Waterhouse, sunset taffeta with silver sprav; Miss Friend, apple green taffeta; Miss Norris, eau de ml georgette: Miss J. Best, pale pink taffeta, uneven hemline. Miss Phyllis Best, piver green satin; Miss B. Alclntosh shot blue taffeta and gold lace; Miss T. Tyle, coral georgette and silver; Aliss B. Munro, green satin and tinsel: Miss D. Watt, cyclamen georgette; Miss D. Smith, sea green georgette, uneven hem; Miss Bridle, maize floral ninon; Aliss Petersen, cherry georgette, oriental tinsel.
